First Day School Pinwheels for Peace

Join our First Day School on September 15th, in making Pinwheels for Peace. Children will join Meeting for Worship for the first 15 minutes. Meeting for Worship begins at 10. Kate Whitman, Clerk of FDS will guide the children in making pinwheels, these will be displayed at the Peace Fair on September 21st.

The original Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project started in 2005 by Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, who were art teachers at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Florida, as a way for their students to express their feelings about what’s going on in the world and in their lives. The project was quickly embraced by their students and the entire school community and by millions of art teachers, teachers, parents, children and adults who desire peace in our world. First Day School opening Worship

September 8th

Learning to settle into worship can be a wiggly matter. Even as adults we don’t always succeed. As part of welcoming our new First Day School Clerk Kate Whitman, we will young and not so young sit in silent worship. Our young friends are welcome to join Kate on the floor with comfy pillows and a large blanket or 2. We plan to have books about peace and small manipulative objects for the the fidgets. Sharing silence with our children and helping them to understand silent expectation, or waiting for the still silent voice is a wonderful gift. We do not expect complete silence.

June 3rd FDS

Our FDS’s closing picnic will take place this Sunday, June 3rd, starting at 11:20 am at the playground. Judy Bartella, our favorite ceramics teacher from George School, will lead a creative clay class for the children, from 10:15-11 am.

If possible, please come at 9:30 am to help set up tables and chairs.

If you like, you may bring a side dish or dessert to share with the community.
