"I Am Transgender"
In these times many of us may be confronted with this statement from a friend or loved one. We would like to explore how our Quaker principles, especially the belief that there is Light (that of God) in everyone , can guide us in our response.
Also, Joanne—who will lead our discussion—recommends watching Will and Harper on Netflix! This compelling documentary by comedian and actor Will Ferrell, best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, captures a heartfelt journey. The film follows Will and his good friend Harper Steele, who recently came out as a trans woman, as they take a road trip to reconnect and introduce Harper to the world as her true self. The result is a touching and genuinely funny story that beautifully balances humor with humanity. Garnering rave reviews, it's a film that will move you, make you laugh, and leave a lasting impression.
Interestingly, before her transition, Harper Steele, then known as Andrew, achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the head writer for SNL. It's a testament to her talent and resilience, especially in the face of the dysphoria she experienced during that time.
