The Lenape Nation of Pennsylvania and the Bachmann Players of Easton are partnering to create the “Walking Purchase Healing Journey”on Saturday, September 21st, 2019. The full day event will begin at the Wrightstown Quaker Meeting House in Wrightstown PA, and end at the“Bond Farm” in Jim Thorpe.

The Lenape Nation and the Players will make the journey by vehicle over the course of the day, stopping along the way for programs. Attendees are welcome to travel along in their own vehicles, or to meet us at any of the designated stops along the way. Healing ceremonies for the land will be presented by the Lenape Nation, and historical documents and presentations outlining the history of the walking purchase will be given by members of the Bachmann Players.

The “Walking Purchase” or“Walking Purchase Hoax” was a dubious treaty forced upon the Lenape tribe by the sons of William Penn in 1737, which removed them from prime hunting lands from Wrightstown to Jim Thorpe, incorporating an amount of land approximately the size of present day Rhode Island.

Walking Purchase Healing Journey Itinerary

9:00- 9:30: Wrightstown Quaker Meeting House 535 Durham Road, Wrightstown PA.
Opening ceremony: Prayer to creator, presentation by the Players, smudging the land, leaving a healing token.

10:30-11:30: Quaker Peace Fair at Buckingham Friends Meeting House 5684 York Road, Lahaska PA.
Lenape ceremonial drumming and singing, presentation by the Players, smudging of the land, round dance.

1:30-3:00: Governor Wolf Historical Society 6600 Jacksonville Rd, Bath, PA.
Lenape ceremonial drumming and singing, presentation by the Players, smudging of land, round dance.

5:00- 6:00: Bond Farm 751 State Rt 903, Jim Thorpe PA.
Ending ceremonies, letters/presentation by the Players, smudging of the land, group round dance by all.
